Literature Text

Ludwig sat at his desk staring at the paperwork on it. He was back at his home in Berlin. After what happened he couldn't go back to Neushwenstein. It had been a month since he learned about _____ spying on him. He still couldn't get her out of his mind. His dreams were filled with her. Well more nightmares than dreams. They would start out nice, with a kiss or a peaceful stroll though a park, but they always ended with her stabbing him the heart, literally. He even had one where she actually shot Gilbert. He couldn't get back to sleep after that one.

Gilbert was at least getting better. He would be coming home in a couple of days.

A knock on the door interrupted his thoughts.

“Ja?”

His butler opened the door, “Sorry to disturb you sir, but the hospital called. They said they're releasing your brother early and need you to pick him up.”

“Huh, vhy?” he asked.

“They said the nurses are getting too distracted with him there.”

Ludwig chuckled a little, “He must be feeling better then, the flirt... Alright I'll go get him.” he said standing, “Thank you.”

His butler handed him his coat and scarf and he put them on, before heading out the door. His breath became visible cloud as he stepped outside. Winter had just come and it had struck hard. No snow, just a coldness that went to his bones. He quickly got in the already started car, grateful for the heat and headed to the hospital.

(mini time skip)

When he got there Gilbert was waiting in the lobby with a nurse. It was obvious he was flirting with her cause she was giggling constantly.

“Gilbert.” he said.

His brother looked at him and gave him his typical smirk. He walked up to the pair and the nurse smiled sweetly.

“Just make sure he still gets some rest.” the nurse told him.

“Ja, I vill. Ready to go?” he asked Gilbert.

“I am ever... the food here is terrible! But the nurses are nice...” Gilbert said, giving the nurse a wink.

She giggled and Ludwig did everything he could not to face-palm.

“Alright vell let's get going.” he said.

Gilbert nodded and two of them walked out to the car. Neither of them said a thing as Ludwig started the car. It wasn't until he pulled out of the hospital parking lot that Gilbert spoke up.

“I heard about _____.” Gilbert said quietly, “I'm sorry bruder...”

He just sighed in response.

Neither said anything the rest of the drive home.

Once they reached home he and Gilbert went inside.

“Get some rest.” he said to Gilbert as he turned to go back to his office.

“Ludvig...” Gilbert said placing a hand on his shoulder, “I am really sorry... yet I'm surprised. She seemed like an awesome girl.”

“A lot of people aren't vhat they seem.” he said dryly.

“Ja, but...” Gilbert started to say, but he cut him off.

“You really should get some rest. I have some papervork to do, so I'll talk to you later.” he said and returned to his office without another word.

He sat in his chair and again stared at the paperwork on his desk.

'Later...' he thought. He grabbed a beer out of his small cooler and quickly drank a third of it. He felt exhausted, but he didn't want to go to sleep. Sleep brought nothing, but nightmares. He chugged another third of the beer. He had been drinking more often than he should, but it was the only thing that let him sleep somewhat peacefully. He prayed that morning would come quick.

“A ball?” Ivan questioned.

Ivan's boss had called him to his office to discuss an important matter. However it turned out his boss wanted to discuss hosting a ball for the EU countries as well as America. Ivan wasn't sure how a ball was important.

“Yes, a ball. I think it's a good idea.” Ivan's boss said. “Keep the other countries from getting curious about us, especially Germany. Germany's boss doesn't know the spies they discovered were Russian spies. _____ did a fine job keeping a low profile. By the way how is _____? I haven't seen her since she got back.”

Ivan hadn't told his boss about what happened with _____. But he was surprised to hear Ludwig had not told his boss about the spies being Russian.

'He must be really hurting...' Ivan thought. He deserved it, for trying to take his sunflower away.

“She's fine. Tired from this whole thing, doesn't want company. I doubt she'll make it to the ball.” Ivan told him.

“Hmm, that's too bad. Anyway back to the ball. All the EU countries are invited along with America. The ambassadors of course, obviously the countries themselves will attend and...”

Ivan had stopped listening to his boss and was thinking about _____. He wish she could go to the ball. He liked dancing with her and loved to watch her dance, but if Ludwig was going to be there he had to keep her away for sure. It would ruin everything if he found out the truth.

“When is it?” Ivan interrupted.

“Tomorrow night, I've already had it arranged.” His boss said.

Ivan just nodded.

“Anyway, I have some things to do before then. I'll speak to you later.” his boss said.

“Da.”

He quickly left and returned home. As soon as he was there, he immediately went to the basement. Toris was down with there with _____, they were putting a puzzle together. They both looked up when Ivan came down.

“Leave.” Ivan said to Toris.

He quickly did. Once they were alone Ivan went and sat next to _____. He smiled at her and she gave him a small smile before quickly looking away.

He sighed, he didn't want name to hate him, he loved her and just didn't want her to leave him. He had been kind to her, he took away the chains, and furnished the basement. He wanted her comfortable.

He grabbed her from behind and held her. She didn't push him away, she never did, but she stiffened. He kissed the back of neck and felt her shiver. He let go of her and moved around to face her.

“My boss is holding a ball for the EU countries tomorrow night. To keep suspicion low. Germany doesn't know it was us. I guess Ludwig never told his boss about the spies being Russian.” he said to her.

She looked up with interest.

“He probably didn't want to endure the embarrassment of being completely lied to and made a fool.” He continued, stroking _____'s chin.

She pulled her head away, “My feelings weren't a lie... he's keeping me safe.”

“Think what you want, sunflower. I'm afraid you won't be able to attend, I wish you could. If you love me again...” he said.

“I don't even know who you are anymore... you've hurt my friend, kidnapped me and locked me in a basement, chained originally. You really think I could love you again after all that? If you really loved me you would let me go... ” she told him.

“It's why I can't let you go, sunflower... I love you too much... and I was always taught to hold on to the things you love, to keep what's valuable safe.”

She didn't look at him or say anything.

“I do wish you could go the ball... I miss dancing with you. But I can't allow it.” He said as he stood.

She still said nothing.

“If you keep up this behavior you won't get out of the basement.”

No response.

“I'll have Toris bring you dinner.” he told her before walking out.

He gave a frustrated sigh after he shut the basement door.

He really didn't care if she was in the basement or not, as long as she was here with him, away from Ludwig. As long as she was his.

^^^

You hadn't said anything to Ivan because you were thinking up a plan. Ludwig would definitely be at the ball. If you could get out of here and get to him he could save you. It would difficult, but you knew you had to try. Maybe Toris would help you. He wasn't in Russia's household out of freewill either. You could only hope.

After a few minutes Toris came back down to the basement, carrying a food tray.

“Toris, I need your help.” you said softly.

“_____ if it's about the ball...” Toris started to say.

“Please Toris, I have to talk to Ludwig... I have to get out of here. You can too.” you pleaded.

Toris looked at you for a moment before nodding, “Alright, I will. Ivan will obviously be attending the ball, so you need to be unrecognizable. I'm sure if we dress you up right, we can make you indiscernible from a distance.”

“Thank you, Toris.” you said as you hugged him.

“Of course, _____. I know what it's like to be a prisoner, if I can help in anyway to get you out of here I will. I better go, I need to plan this out.” Toris told you.

You let him go and watched him leave. You felt excited, you had a chance to escape. You could only hope Toris's idea would work.
